Samarkand – Kupkari show – Samarkand

Breakfast in the hotel in Samarkand. Morning drive to Samarkand region to watch the Kupkari/Buzkashi show where it is held. Due to a security reason it is better to go up to a trailer of a truck or a tractor and watch from there. Lunch with locals. PM. Return to Samarkand hotel for an overnight.

Features of the tour:

It is an ancient fierce game played by strong & brave riders. Some travelers may not like the idea of riders’ contending for the body of a dead goat.

Best season to travel:

It is usually held in spring & autumn during holidays & weddings.

Level of difficulties and age limitation:

As it is an exciting horse game, we recommend for travelers above 18 years old.

Remark:

In the past local rulers used to arrange such games to pick up the strongest & most clever guys for their armies. Nowadays it is quite popular in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan & Karakalpakistan.
